— Aspen house women's recovery

A trauma-informed space where women rebuild their lives in recovery

90-day residential treatment (with options to stay longer) for women recovering from substance use disorders in Pena Blanca, New Mexico.

— what we do

Residential treatment where healing comes first

Aspen House Women's Recovery offers residential treatment for women recovering from substance use disorders. We provide a safe, substance-free home in Pena Blanca (between Santa Fe and Albuquerque) where women can focus on healing, develop new coping skills, and rebuild their lives. This includes women navigating pregnancy, parenting young children, or working with parole and probation. LGBTQ+ women are welcome.

Our 90-day program combines intensive therapy, case management, life skills development, Circle of Security™ parenting classes and community support. We help women reintegrate into their communities with stronger self-awareness, practical tools, and a foundation for long-term recovery.

— why this program exists

Women in recovery face unique challenges

Navigating the demands of parenting while healing from addiction, rebuilding relationships fractured by substance use, addressing trauma that often underlies addiction, and finding stable housing and employment.

Traditional treatment programs don't always account for these intersecting needs.

We create space for women to heal in community, develop practical skills for daily life, and prepare for sustainable recovery beyond residential treatment.

Aspen House exists to provide holistic, trauma-informed care that addresses the whole person, not just the addiction.

— why it works

How approach creates lasting change

Residential treatment removes barriers and creates stability

Recovery is hard when you are managing unstable housing, unsafe relationships, or immediate survival needs. Our residential program provides a stable, supportive environment where women can focus entirely on healing without those daily stressors.

Trauma-informed care addresses root causes

Many women in recovery have experienced trauma, often the driving force behind substance use. Our trauma-informed approach creates safety, builds trust, and helps women process difficult experiences without resorting to substances.

Intensive, multi-faceted programming supports lasting change

Recovery requires new skills, new relationships, and new ways of understanding yourself. Our combination of therapy modalities works because it addresses recovery from multiple angles:

→

Group therapy (6 days/week) builds community, reduces isolation, and allows women to learn from each other's experiences

→

Individual therapy provides personalized support for processing trauma, building coping skills, and working toward individual goals

→

Adventure and nature-based therapy creates opportunities for challenge, confidence-building, and connection outside traditional clinical settings

→

Equine therapy teaches emotional regulation, trust, and non-verbal communication through relationship with horses

→

Case management removes practical barriers by helping women navigate benefits, housing, legal systems, and healthcare

→

Life skills classes rebuild practical competencies that addiction may have eroded

→

Circle of Security Parenting™ supports mothers in understanding and responding to their children's needs, strengthening attachment and reducing intergenerational trauma

Medication-Assisted Treatment meets people where they are

For women with opioid use disorders, MAT is evidence-based and life-saving. We support women in continuing or beginning MAT, recognizing it as a legitimate path to recovery.

Community-based approach prepares women for life after treatment

Our program does not isolate women from the community. We help them practice navigating real-world situations, build healthy support networks, and plan for sustainable recovery beyond 90 days.
